field_studies_ncca2006-2007_med.jpg

In 2006/2007 I participated in the program Field Studiespublic art in Russian, Scandinavian and Finnish artist in St.Petersburg. It was produced by the National center for contemporary art, St.Petersburg branch and I contributed with my piece Re-arranged Movement (1999).

The performative piece was executed in the passages of the Art Center Pushkinskaya 10 in St. Petersburg.

Paths Rearranged
People are always moving through spaces and levels of consciousness. In the city signs are telling You where to go and how to organize Yourself to others. We are often very well coordinated to meet the demands of the city. Both to make our movements fit economically in this environment and to keep up the feeling that we are free to make individual selections of directions in the city and life.

Movement takes time and effort and, therefore, it’s important to measure the shortest way between two places. That measurement is, however, often deformed by the shifting variables (physical or mental) for city travel.

Showing some slides from the catalog:

Two catalogs but still one

Today I received the catalogs from the project Sixth Sense initiated by the Swedish Church.

Sixth Sense, initiated by the Swedish Church invited 24 artists to do site-specific art works in 23 churches. So one artist for every church. Exhibit scedule 17 May – 2 September

More info here about my project Best in Show in Norrby Church, Sala

I was amazed they actually did a separate edition in English instead of a bilingual one. The interesting was that the churches were presented also in combination with the artists in this catalog. The overall impression was that the catalog both maintains the easy art reader (not for SITE addicts) but at the same time an interested audience for the history in their area will get some glimpses of the churches in the diocese of Västerås.
I got some copies to sell in English or Swedish, give me a hint of what you like to buy them for.

Томас Нигрен исследует взаимосвязь психологического восприятия движения и реального перемещения в пространстве. Проходя одной и той же дорогой каждый день, мы обычно выбираем самый короткий путь. Но что мы при этом теряем?
